Archie Dickens (1907 - 2004)

Pin-up artist Archie Dickens was born in Balham in 1907.  He worked as a commercial artist and his airbrush paintings of the 1940's and 1950's have a popular combination of meticulous detail and risque content.  We have a rare example of one of his gouache paintings from the 1950's.  Archie Dickens received unexpected publicity at the age of 94 when the designer Paul Smith used one of his pin-up images on a shirt cuff and it was subsequently worn by Tony Blair.
